Product # 640

Price: $ 6.00 per ¼ lb.

Yerba Maté is a traditional drink (hot brewed like tea) made from a South American shrub, the Yerba plant. The plant's dried leaves and twigs are steeped in hot water (not boiling though) to make a tea-like infusion, known as Yerba Maté (pronounced, Yur-bah Ma-Tay).
Yerba Maté's flavor is strongly vegetal, herbal, and grassy. Traditionally, the Yerba Maté is drunk from a hollowed gourd; loose maté leaves sit in the bottom of the gourd and the drinker repeatedly pours hot water over the leaves, drinking the infusion through a 'bombilla' (a metal straw with a strainer at the bottom) until the leaves lose their flavors or the drinker runs out of hot water - whichever happens first.
  • Yerba Maté has a higher caffeine content compared to black and green teas.

  • Ideal temperature to brew is 160-180 ° F- Boiling water is not recommended.

  • Plant is grown is South America-Northern Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay & southern Brazil.

  • Cupping Notes
    Sweet, Grassy Flavor.
