The NY Coffee Cup, also known as the 'Anthora Cup' or the 'Greek Cup' was designed by Leslie Buck in the 1960's. It's been an extremely popular coffee cup design over the last 50 years, especially in New York. Because of its status as a NY icon, the cup is often used in NY-based films and TV shows, such as Law & Order.

Laszlo Büch (Leslie Buck) was born in 1922 in Czechoslovakia (now Ukraine.). His parents were killed by the Nazis during World War II. He himself was a Holocaust survivor. He came to NY after WW2.
After starting a paper-cup manufacturing company with his brother, he joined Sherri Cup in the 60's. He was their sales manager and later became the marketing director.
He designed his NY Cup design for the various Greek diners in NY. He used the colors of the Greek flag. Buck had no formal training in art, and did the design himself.
The cup was an instant success. It sold in the hundreds of millions annually.
Leslie Buck retired in 1992. He passed away in 2010.
